A few years ago, I was just another hard working, high achieving, get it done, in control kind of woman. One who was sadly ignoring my own needs to take care of everyone else. Yes, I was tired. (Who isn't?!??) But my sons were almost grown, and I fully expected my 50's and 60's to be some of my best years.
Then life took several unexpected turns. Cancer diagnosis, financial crisis, selling a beloved home, heart attack scare, end of a 25 year marriage, and being an immune compromised working woman in a global pandemic - among other things - all in less than 4 yrs! I did not bounce back overnight, but I learned the power of small changes to build resilience and become a woman I was comfortable seeing in the mirror.

I spent 15 yrs as a group fitness instructor until the demands of a growing family and a job with a brutal travel schedule caused me to take care of everyone - except myself. In 2013, I participated in a group challenge to exercise 30 mins/day, 5 days/wk. I lost my "all or nothing" mindset and began to focus on the lasting benefits of small changes applied consistently each day. I was feeling great again!
Then in 2016, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although it threw me for a loop, I worked hard every day to take back my health. I celebrated the end of cancer treatment by participating in my first triathlon, which I trained for throughout radiation. I celebrated my 1st cancerversary by running in my first 1/2 marathon, and just 6 weeks after my first real 5K!
Friends started coming to me weekly, inspired by my positive attitude and new wealth of knowledge. They witnessed the benefits of my own lifestyle changes firsthand, and they began to ask questions for themselves and their friends about health and wellness changes.
I embraced this new calling in life and became a Certified Heath Coach with the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute in February of 2018. I also hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering from North Carolina State University and have worked in health and safety engineering since 1985. Ever the entrepreneur, I founded (and still run) Air Matters Mold Testing in 2002, after having two other side hustles.
I am always up for a physical challenge and fueled by a mix of competition and adventure. That makes parenting three smart, handsome, athletic and compassionate young men (that thankfully love to travel with me) even more fun! I am a Ramblin' Rose Triathlete, a 5-time Rugged Maniac, a 2-time Half Marathon finisher, and have completed a highest difficulty rock climb. I secretly hope to climb Mount Kilimanjaro one day. It's on the bucket list, right below getting the attic cleaned out and learning to say no more often.
